After our test of the "Pioneer triplets (BDR-211EBK \ S11J \ S11JX)", i.e., designs that are technically identical and differ only in software and external appearance, we have now tested the latest generation of Pioneer Blu-ray and Ultra HD Blu-ray drives, the BDR-212 / S12 / X12 series. For marketing and other reasons known only to Pioneer, this latest generation of drives includes a whole bunch of the latest "children" from Pioneer. Understanding the differences between these models can be very daunting and intimidating, however we have summarized the many models below to make it easier for our readers.
The table below developed by @blackened2687 and @jadburner contains all technical and specifications information for the individual models. The table includes, among other model-specific information, hardware revision/designation, kernel type, regional purpose and availability, support for UHD \ 4K and maximum read and write speeds.
In the latest models, the SATA 3 controller was used, official support for M-Disc DVD was added so that the latest models have full support for M-Disc DVD and M-Disc Blu-Ray, and as in previous models, there is no official support for Windows XP. The main components and sub-assemblies are identical in all three models. The differences occur in the internal software as well as in the external details: some elements such as the front panel, housing, anti-dust and anti-vibration system or tray system are different. The technical hardware of these Pioneer models are technically identical, i.e., we are dealing with the Resenas R8J32740FP42 chipset, ONP-8577-A and ONP-8534-A motherboards, as well as Pioneer mechanics and OPU.
I would like to thank you for the great help and support and the work done for the co-authors of this test - @jadburner and @blackened2687 - Thank you very much for all your help and work. !!!!!!
